Hurray! Representing La Candela and all the great folks who helped volunteer with the making of “La Bicicleta”, Mark Beaty accepted the “Go Independent” award for best indie music used in a festival film. The annual “Filmed by Bike” festival is a great coming together of bike enthusiasts and film makers for five days at character-rich Clinton Street Theatre in Portland OR.

Our recent video, La Bicicleta, snagged a spot in Portland’s annual Filmed By Bike Film Festival April 13th-18th, 2012. Extra exciting is that the video is one of three films nominated for the “Go Independent” award, which recognizes rad music performed by indie musicians. http://filmedbybike.org/awards/ will give you more info on the festival. La Candela fans will be glad to hear that the band’s first public appearance in Vancouver this year will include a special guest performer, the legendary Toto Berriel from Matanzas, Cuba. Formerly of Los Munequitos de Matanzas, Toto will be lending his voice to the band (and his incredible skills on percussion) in what is sure to be a memorable night dancing in the streets of North Vancouver. July 29th, 2011 7-9pm. Baila baila!!!
